Sunrise Tour

Beginnings

Sometimes all that's left is the dreaded beginning. Does it have a hook? Is a better hook buried somewhere in the first chapter? Do I need that prologue? With this kind of opening will anyone read Chapter 2?

This assessment covers the strengths and weaknesses of your opening and includes suggestions for revision, tips for what readers look for in the first pages of your story, and a list of questions I expect your story to answer based on your beginning.

Query Letters

You've done all the hard work to revise your story until it sparkles. Unless you're planning on self-publishing, it's time to query. You know, write a catchy little description of what you wrote that's no longer than 250 words and somehow encapsulates the charm of your entire story. And don't forget a synopsis.

Freaking out yet? Don't worry, I've got your back. You didn't think I was really going to dump you on the side of the road now, did you? No way! I'll walk you through how to convey your story in 250 words or less and write a synopsis that outlines your story clearly and concisely.

If you're confused about what genre your story is and what comp titles are, this is also the time to get some help!

Plot

Plots are complicated. Every scene generates possible plot holes and loose threads. You might have too many characters, too many coincidences, or too few scenes that connect the major ideas of your story.

This assessment generates an outline of your story, takes stock of strengths, weaknesses, and missing information, and points out contradictions.

Characters

You're confident in your plot. But for some reason people keep saying your characters are unrealistic, unappealing, or underwhelming.

This assessment examines all of your characters and gives feedback on their psychology, their believability, and the strengths and weaknesses of their portrayal. I also generate a summary of their character development.

The Leap

Ending

You've written a great story. You're almost finished. But now, with the pressure on and with a novel full of characters and events to resolve, you're running into problems. You don't know how to wrap up the subplot. The ending you have isn't dramatic enough.

Or perhaps you think your ending is great but no one else does, and it's time to bring in a fresh perspective.

This assessment is about crafting the perfect ending, one that makes the readers feel the way you want them to, conveys the ultimate message of the story, and makes you feel like it's possible to stop writing, walk away, and work on your next project. Or start the sequel!

I'll read your entire story, then gauge the ending and make notes on its effect, the strengths and weaknesses of your approach, and what the message/theme of your story is versus what you want it to be.
